You obviously haven't watched General Hospital in a while.

Why not clean house and start anew with cheaper actors, if the cost of veteran actors is so much? You'd think the name value alone would be worth something.

I have no idea how much continuity there is in daytime soaps, but I always thought that it was pretty much a revolving door of talent with a few exceptions.

Anyone know how the reairing of the shows on something like the SOAP channel helps or hurts the ratings?

Dark Shadows is out on DVD.

Soap operas would be ideal for burn on demand services. I'd LOVE to gather together a complete run of John DeLancie's run on Days of Our Lives (the last time I ever watched an American soap opera, and that's because my mom recommended it to me because of his performance on the show.)

EastEnders is another one I would love to own a complete series of, but I know it will never be commercially available. Burn on demand is the only way to go for stuff like this.

That's what I am saying. OK, I can buy it that the current cast/creative team have run their course. Shoot, the radio show ran it's course. You can't expect me to believe the TV series was the same as the radio show. Not after all these years. But because what has kept the show on all the years has run its course doesn't mean you just sweep it under the rug now.

I compare soap operas to comic books....long runs, veteran titles that seem to have been around forever, continuing story lines... Would you cancel Superman because the creative teams on the books faltered and sales were down? Or would you find a way to reboot Superman with a new outlook?

I never watched Guiding Light, and I don't plan on watching soaps ever again (the John DeLancie episodes of Days of Our Lives were enough for me) but this is like the Batman or Superman of daytime TV, for crying out loud.

Has it gotten bad AGAIN? Yeesh, GH can't get it together for squat. I know they brought back Natalia Livingston but not as Emily, who they killed off a couple of years ago. I thought that might be enough to help out things. Guess not.

As for cleaning house and getting all new actors, I don't think that would work. Soap fans tend to be very loyal to their favorite shows and stars. I can imagine angry fans would cause more trouble than re-launching a classic show is worth.

DAYS actually tried something like this several years ago with the Salem Killer. SK had even knocked off matriarch Alice Horton. But then DAYS went for the stupidest swerve ever and had all the victims being on an island, safe and sound.
